Omexom GA Energo has signed a contract with Omexom Netherlands for the complete installation of the Zuid Groningen Ter Apelkanaal 380/110 kV substation, which will be the largest project of its kind in the Netherlands. The contract was signed at the headquarters of the Brno branch of the company, which is responsible for foreign projects. Representatives of Omexom NL – Erwin Meijer, Jos Meijer and Geert Welfing – attended the ceremony.

Once completed, the Zuid Groningen Ter Apelkanaal substation will not only be the largest substation in the country, but also the largest project ever undertaken by Omexom NL and Omexom GA Energo. The high-voltage section will include a record number of fields, with the total amount of installation work exceeding 90,000 hours.

The value of the entire project in Omexom NL’s scope exceeds CZK 3 billion, with the assembly part alone, which will be carried out by Omexom GA Energo, amounting to more than CZK 200 million.

Once completed, the substation will be operated by TenneT TSO, with commissioning planned for 2027.

Technical and design details of the Zuid Groningen Ter Apelkanaal substation

  • The first modularly constructed 380kV substation in the Netherlands: Zuid Groningen Ter Apelkanaal is TenneT’s pilot project in the field of modular substation construction. This approach allows for the parallel design of electrical installations and construction components, which increases the efficiency and predictability of construction
  • Prefabrication and sustainability: The project emphasizes prefabricated building elements and sustainable design. The buildings are designed with ecology in mind, although there is still room for improvement in the outdoor fields
  • Standard testing: Omexom is the first supplier to test TenneT’s new modular construction standard. The project thus also serves as a pilot for future substations.
