The third year of the OMEXOM Summer School brought ten university students specializing in energy and electrical engineering to Pilsen. From August 25 to 29, 2025, participants had the opportunity to experience first-hand what working at Omexom is like, meet leading experts, and take a look behind the scenes of major energy projects.

A rich professional program

The summer school program offered a unique combination of excursions, professional lectures, and personal meetings. Students visited the substation in Preštice, the construction site of a 400 kV power line, and the construction of a Emergency Restoration System.

The program also included lectures by experts from OMEXOM GA Energo and Omexom Elektrotrans, which focused on the design of very high and high voltage power lines and the issue of distribution at lower voltage levels.

At the beginning of the summer school, the students were welcomed by the directors of both companies operating under the Omexom brand in the Czech Republic – Zdeněk Židek (OMEXOM GA Energo) and Martin Zeman (Omexom Elektrotrans). In addition to Czech experts, the students also had the opportunity to talk to colleagues from abroad, who presented the functioning of the Omexom group and its parent company VINCI Energies.

Not just work, but also experiences

The summer school was not just about professional topics. Participants also met during the evening program, which included go-karting and a tour of the Pilsen brewery. Thanks to this, the students quickly got to know each other and made new friends and professional contacts.

How did students rate the event?

The participants’ responses show that the summer school achieved its goal – to offer practical experience, inspiration, and motivation for their future careers.

  • “Every day of the program brought me something new and useful. I was most impressed by the tour of the ERS construction site.“
  • “I was most interested in the lectures on HV and MV/LV design.“
  • “The tours to the construction sites and have the chance to talk to experts about their work and
experience were a great learning opportunities.“
  • “The summer school gave me a better understanding of the industry, I gained new contacts, and practical
knowledge that I had previously only seen in textbooks.“
  • “Seeing a substation and transmission system components in person was crucial for me – it
opened my eyes to a possible career path.“

A door to the world of energy

The OMEXOM summer school has this year once again proven to be an exceptional project that helps students combine theory with practice, expand their knowledge, and gain inspiration for their future professional lives.

As the capacity is always limited, it’s worth keeping an eye out for information about next year’s program and applying early. Perhaps participating in the OMEXOM Summer School will be the start of a career in one of today’s most promising industry – energy.
